AAPI and Us: How does Aotearoa fit into the acronym?

  • McLeavy Gallery 147 Cuba Street Wellington, 6011 New Zealand (map)

What does it mean for Pacific Islanders in publishing to be left out of the conversation? Manuia Heinrich, Mā‘ohi writer researcher, educator and Pacific Islanders in Publishing co-founder, and Nicola Andrews (Ngāti Paoa), Māori poet, Open Education Librarian for the University of San Francisco and elected Member-at-Large for the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association, meet for this ocean-spanning conversation.

Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month may feel like something wholly disconnected from Aotearoa but every May organisations across the USA put out lists of AAPI books to read. As a Pacific publishing hub, and home for many Pasifika writers, what do we lose when our authors are left out?
