Tze Ming Mok
Tze Ming Mok is a writer, researcher and sociologist, best known in Aotearoa as a cultural and political commentator on racism and human rights issues, particularly those affecting Asian communities. Her 2004 Landfall essay ‘Race You There’ is a longstanding call upon Asians in Aotearoa to embrace their role as Tangata Tiriti. In 2020 her doctoral thesis on the categorisation of multiraciality in the UK was awarded the Titmuss prize for best Social Policy PhD at the London School of Economics. Born and raised in Mt Roskill, her family is Southeast Asian Chinese via Guangdong, Yunnan, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
